Rooty Hill RSL Club
I had the pleasure of a meet and greet with Troy before the gig, which added to the experience. We had a sneak preview of a few songs and we got to attend a sound check and have a chat, photo and signing with the boy from Grafton.
Supported by the very funny and multi-talented, Pete Denahy on his birthday, no less, Troy delivered a knockout concert to a pretty full auditorium.
Troy sang many songs off his new album, Freedom Ride (see review) and some old favourites. He also showed his versatility with a tribute to the Highwaymen, especially a great impersonation of Waylon Jennings. If you closed your eyes, you would swear that it was the late, great man, himself.
Troy is one of the nicest guys in country music. His charm and down to earth personality, his love of country, family and people shine through. He is a proud indigenous man as well.
Troy and I share a love of trains, very glad that he featured a few of those songs! With a great band that featured Pete again and some of Australia’s very best had a solid hit out last Saturday night.
He reaches out to his audience and they respond in kind. With restrictions due to his health, he soldiered on and made a brave lap of honour of the auditorium getting up close and personal with his fans.
It was clear from the very start that he wanted us to have a good time and we did. Thank you, Troy. You are a legend.
